1. How much does a solar system cost in South Africa?
Every home is different, so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all price. The cost depends on your electricity usage, whether you want to reduce your Eskom bill or eliminate it almost entirely, and how much battery backup you require. FrostVolt designs every system around your home and budget to maximise long-term savings. Our standard residential packages range between R96000 to R309000.
2. How much can I save on my electricity bill?
Most homeowners experience significant reductions in their monthly electricity costs after installing a correctly sized solar system. The exact saving depends on your energy consumption, roof size, system design and future electricity price increases. Depending on your electricity tariff a good rule of thumb is you save about R250 per month on your electricity bill for every solar panel you install (550W).
3. Is solar still worth it if load shedding has mostly stopped?
Absolutely. Today, the biggest reason homeowners invest in solar is to protect themselves against continuously increasing electricity prices. A properly designed solar system gives you greater energy independence and predictable long-term savings. Solar doesn’t just provide power when the grid goes down – solar is a way cheaper alternative to grid power.
4. Can I run my whole house on solar?
Yes. We design systems ranging from partial backup solutions to large off-grid and semi-off-grid installations capable of powering an entire home, including air conditioning, geysers, pool pumps and other high-demand appliances.
5. What is the difference between off-grid and hybrid (semi-off-grid) solar?
An off-grid system operates independently from Eskom. A hybrid or semi-off-grid system remains connected to the grid but generates most of your electricity from solar and batteries, allowing you to minimise electricity purchases while maintaining maximum reliability.
6. Which solar panels do you use?
We only install premium Tier 1 solar panels from globally recognised manufacturers. Tier 1 panels are known for their excellent efficiency, long warranties and proven reliability over many years.
7. Which inverter brands do you recommend?
Our preferred inverter brand is Deye because of its outstanding performance, reliability and compatibility with premium battery systems. We recommend equipment based on long-term dependability rather than marketing claims.
8. How long do solar batteries last?
Modern lithium batteries typically last between 10 and 15 years, depending on usage, battery chemistry and maintenance. Premium batteries are designed to deliver thousands of charging cycles while maintaining high performance.
9. How long does installation take?
Most residential solar installations are completed within one to three days. Larger or more complex installations may require additional time depending on the system size and electrical work involved.
10. Do you offer finance for solar systems?
We can assist customers with financing guidance that allow you to install a premium solar system while paying affordable monthly instalments, making it easier to start saving on electricity immediately. FrostVolt does not offer finance.
11. Do I need to maintain my solar system?
Solar systems require very little maintenance. Occasional panel cleaning and periodic inspections help ensure maximum efficiency and long-term performance. We also recommend monitoring your system to detect any issues early.
12. Can you install air conditioners as well?
Yes. FrostVolt supplies and installs high-quality split mid-wall air conditioners for residential and commercial properties. We can also design solar systems that efficiently power your air conditioning, reducing running costs throughout the year.
13. Which areas do you service?
